Howard County Greens Weblog

The Green Party Local in Howard County, Maryland.

07 April 2006

First of all, I have been remiss in not posting for the last week.

Today's post will consist of a couple of (brief) announcements. I really do have some essays I plan to be writing sometime soon but... well, we'll see how that goes.

First of all, the next Local meeting, previously reported as being at 4:00 PM on the 23rd at the Blue Cow Café, is actually scheduled for 2:00 PM on the same day. Sorry for any confusion.

We have a venue for the Caucus. It will be held on May 21st at the East Columbia Branch Library, from 1 - 5 PM. I will be requesting permission for the Greens to petition at the East Columbia Branch Library on the afternoon of the Caucus. Sundays appear to be a VERY busy day for libraries... (Just sayin'...)

The Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) is expanding into Howard County. The IAF is non-partisan, but it is working towards Green values. It would be very nice to see Greens from across the County turn out.

The first meeting will take place on Sunday afternoon, April 30th, 5:00 - 6:00pm at Mt. Pisgah AME Church on Cedar Lane. This partnership aims to address the vital issues facing the residents of Howard County (education, affordable housing, recreation and leadership opportunities for youth, support for seniors to name a few).

School Zoning
The Howard County Public School System is seeking individuals interested in serving on the 2006 Attendance Area Committee. The purpose of the committee is to assist school officials in the evaluation of school attendance area adjustments and the FY2008 Capital Budget. This year's committee will focus on the attendance areas associated with the new northeastern elementary school, scheduled to open in August 2007. The committee also will consider middle school attendance area adjustments in the northeast and western regions of the county.
All attendance area changes will be effective for the 2007-08 school year. Attendance Area Committee members must be at least 21 years old and be residents of Howard County. Committee members will be selected through an interview process.
Persons interested in serving on the Attendance Area Committee should send a letter of interest, including any background, skills, or experience that would make them a good candidate for membership on the committee. Letters of interest should be sent by May 19, 2006, to:
